The passage that stood out to me in "America's Killing Contagion" is, "What drives the shooters?". Revenge, desire for fame or attention, and mental illness are some of the possible reasons for someone to commit such a terrible act. Learning that almost all mass shooters are male is interesting and I would like to know the reason why. I also read that only 23% have been treated for mental illness. That is sort of strange to me, because they obviously need help. 64% of shooters are white, 16% are black, and 9% are Asian. I would like to know more about their psyche and what was going on in their lives.

1. In "My Sister, the Soldier," the main idea of the article is to show what it is like when a family member joins the military.
2. The article provides evidence from each character that supports this main idea. Sister soldier - "Don't worry, see you in September." "Don't worry, I'm cautious, I won't take unnecessary risks." Mother - "You're terribly young. It's too difficult, challenging, and dangerous, you really should reconsider." "I really wish Darlene could return for Christmas." Sister - "Christmas was uniquely sad this year, not the holiday we had appreciated in the past." "We waited and waited, and I worried, too." |
